The soprano Lore Binon was the voice in residence at Flanders Festival in Mechelen in 2017. She is coming back to celebrate the festival’s 50th anniversary in Mechelen with us at LUNALIA LIFT-OFF. And she is bringing an exciting composition with her: the fifth and most famous part of Heitor Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileras. Accompanied by no fewer than eight cellists, she will sing this piece based on a poem by Ruth Corêa on the themes of melancholy and the moon. The piece ends in a vocalise with the mouth closed: “the Sound of M”, the festival motto in its purest form! As if that were not enough, it will be preceded by one of Arvo Pärt’s best-loved works: Fratres, in the version for eight cellos.
