Rosalba is a concert for small children inspired by the ‘ballad tunes’ by the composer John Dowland and a painting by Sandro Botticelli. Rosa and Alba are sisters and each other’s opposites. Alba waits like an ice floe on the shoreline. Alba is sad and so cold that her smile has frozen. Rosa teaches her a song. John Dowland’s lute song.

We heard Dowland’s ‘Flow my tears’, quiet and plaintive.
The little ones sat and watched with open mouths.
