Heavenly Music for Grandfather Beethoven

This unusual double bill pays spiritual homage to Beethoven’s ancestors in Mechelen. Ludwig’s grandfather Louis was baptised at St. Catherine’s Church. Two hundred and fifty years after his famous grandson was baptised, music is resounding again throughout this gorgeous place. There are two remarkable duos on the menu. First up is ˈkɑːmos (Kaamos), Aino Peltomaa and Nathan Wouters’ musical brainchild. The duo’s name refers to the period of darkness in Finland when the sun does not come over the horizon. They combine Finnish mythology and Nathan’s compositions in a search for the musical dimensions of light and darkness.

Second in line is Blowslap, the duo consisting of Evi Filippou and Hayden Chisholm, whose sound might be described as Pythagoras, Xenakis, Genghis Khan and Duke Ellington making music together in a Greek forest. Plenty of material to transport everyone to higher spheres.
