Almost fifty years after the release of Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares, the majestic polyphony of the Bulgarian women’s choir still appeals to the imagination. The Brussels-based pianist Louise Andri went in search of a way to put this unique music into a modern context. Along with the singer Emmanuelle Duvillard, she has embarked upon the musical adventure Aishinka (‘the evolution of love’), in which she combines this wonderful tradition with jazz, classical and urban music. The result is an intoxicating combination of old and new, vocal and instrumental, which has already won several international awards.
