This performance is one long, passionate love letter to Eduardo Rovira, the pioneer of the avant-garde in tango. Back in 1965, Rovira disbanded his octet and went for a trio line-up inspired by jazz, consisting of the bandoneon, double bass and electric guitar. Rovira was famous as an exceptionally gifted bandoneon player. He introduced electronic elements on his groundbreaking album Sonico in 1969 and developed a unique, impressionist sound for the bandoneon that was unrivalled in the genre. On 24 November 1979, Eduardo Rovira gave his last public performance and presented his newest composition for the first and last time: Canciones Contemporáneas Argentinas. Sonico breathes new life into these little-known contemporary classics. You can’t get any closer to the resolute passion of Argentinean tango than this. This unique concert, created especially for Lunalia, reawakens Rovira’s pioneering musical vision and also celebrates his 100th birthday.
