This evening is all about the crab canon: music written so that you can play it from finish to start just as easily as from start to finish. Johann Sebastian Bach was a dab hand at writing them. Zefiro Torna and Ensemble Variances take his Musikalisches Opfer as a springboard to plunge into six centuries of music history, from the 14th century song En la maison Dedalus and the 15th century Tout par compas suy composés to contemporary works by George Crumb and Thierry Pécou. Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven brings this lobster quadrille to life in images.
