Elly Aerden (Eléonor) and Gerry De Mol have been exploring the writings of J.J. Slauerhoff, the poet of longing for distant shores, longing for women both attainable and out of reach, and longing for home. The poet with fado, samba and bossa in his ears. The result is an entirely new repertoire of songs to texts by Slauerhoff. Expect beauty, melancholic references to ladies at the window, glimpses of islands and of the place where Slauerhoff ultimately lived: inside his poems. And, yes, songs of a life that is beautiful and ugly and not what he expected it to be.
