Super flumina Babylonis is one of Philippus De Monte’s most famous compositions. It can be heard regularly among our neighbours in the UK. De Monte wrote the piece for his fellow composer William Byrd. The latter responded with a setting of the psalm Quomodo Cantabimus. It is one of the many touching exchanges between composers in music history.
