What better setting could there be for Francis Poulenc’s Gloria than the majestic St. Rumbold's Cathedral? The performers are every bit as impressive: the conductor Jeroen Keymeulen brings together Mechelen Chamber Orchestra, Vivente Voce, Dulcisona and Beauvarlet Choir. The solo soprano is Emma Posman. Together, they perform this composition in ‘Vivaldi style’, as the composer himself instructed. Tradition has it that he was inspired to write the second part, Laudamus te, by Benedictine monks playing football. Poulenc is as playful as ever, even in a grand setting.
