LALAEI
Sleep, sleep,
Give your sorrow, your pain to me.
Sleep, sleep,
The dark night will pass.
Soon, my child,
The sun will drive the winter cold away.
Only your father,
Oh, oh, if only he was here with me, with you.
In this unique collaboration, guitar quartet Zwerm and WALPURGIS with the percussionist Karen Willems, Iranian singer Sarah Akbari, English storyteller Marie Phillips and Israeli director Raphael Rodan seek out the dark edges of the apparently innocent songs used all over the world to sing children to sleep. They do this with a mythic story from Ovid’s Metamorphoses: the story of Procne, a queen, dutiful daughter, obedient wife and loving mother. Until the day she discovers that her sister has suffered a terrible injustice...
With songs in Turkish, Kurdish, Hebrew and Persian*
Spoken texts in English.
* And in Mazandarani (Iranian language spoken in northern Iran), Bakhtiari (a south-west Iranian dialect) and Qashqai (Turkic language related to Azerbaijani) etc.
