There is a story by the Turkish poet and writer Nazim Hikmet in which a man called Dr Littman sits and stares at a heart in a jar. He tries to imagine the sentimental life of the heart’s owner, Madame Tchabaï, and starts humming love songs to himself. Jean-Luc Fafchamps has set this bizarre daydream to music, adding his own favourite songs to create a song cycle for mezzo soprano, cello and piano.
