Ode to Cathy Berberian

2025 is the 100th anniversary of the birth of the fascinating American singer Cathy Berberian. One of her compositions, written in 1966, was Stripsody. The score consisted mainly of material from speech bubbles in comic strips. The singer Noriko Yakushiji will perform the score of Stripsody in two ways, especially for Lunalia Off: once ‘classically’ and once in ‘Japanese style’ – the manga version, as it were. Essential listening for all comic fans and lovers of cheerful absurdity. Between the two versions, Rebecca Diependaele, the director of MATRIX [New Music Centre], will tell us more about the grande dame Cathy Berberian.
