The pianist, composer and improviser Kris Defoort is joining musical forces once again with one of his long-time artistic comrades, the Hungarian singer and improviser Veronika Harcsa. After a period in which he was absorbed by the creation of his opera, The Time of Our Singing, Defoort went in search of something airier. This journey of discovery has led him to the song cycle Pieces of Peace, an elegant balancing act on the cusp of chamber music and jazz. The cycle contains joyful, melancholic, sparkling and subdued musical reflections on poems by writers including Theodore Roethke, Peter Verhelst, William Blake and Fernando Pessoa.
