Vanishing Point

Sofie Vanden Eynde

It is November 2016. The lute player Sofie Vanden Eynde is afraid that her heart will stop beating. Her doctor writes down the diagnosis in block letters: burnout. She is a burned-out house. The music falters too. Adrenalin sticks to her strings: to play is to die. She stops. For almost a year. Now it is time to take stock. Her strings speak differently now: the silence between the notes has gained a different meaning. Sofie encapsulates her experiences with burnout in a recital between white noise and clarity, confusion and silence, chaos and harmony. With music by John Dowland, Francesco da Milano, de Visée, de Narvaéz, and new work by Vladimir Gorlinsky.
